The Report of Crisis Group on the Resurgence of the Islamic State in NE Syria
The AANES and the SDF now find themselves between a rock and a hard place as the USA and its allies in the Grand Coalition are now engaged in a proxy war with Russia and an engagement with China that is heightening to a point of military engagement via proxy wars. Turkiye is exploiting this new geopolitical reality to ratchet up the pressure on the Kurds in NE Syria and as a result the Islamic State is now quickening its resurgence and Al Hawl camp is a major point of incursion. If this geopolitical reality plays itself out the likelihood increases of a US military aircraft depositing our nationals from the camps and prisons in NE Syria at Piarco.
