March 23, 2022 Third Anniversary of the Fall of Islamic State, of Detention of T&T citizens
On March 23, 2022 the SDF with the Grand Coalition celebrated the defeat of the Islamic State at the battle of Baghuz Fawqani in the province of Deir ez-Zor, Syria. On the celebratory occasion the SDF called out all governments who are refusing to repatriate their citizens from the camps of the SDF as being stumbling blocks in their fight against a resurgent Islamic State. T&T was then called out by the SDF as we remain a recalcitrant nation even refusing to accept that our nationals held in the camps are in fact T&T citizens and to visit the camps to confirm if T&T nationals are there or not. The tone of the SDF victory message is then fear of an Islamic State resurgence that threatens the hegemony of the SDF over North east Syria, the ever increasing threat to their control of the camps and the opportunity the recalcitrant nations as T&T is affording the resurgent Islamic State to precipitate a strategic situation that erodes the hegemony of the SDF over the camps resulting in an international incident involving the loss of life and injury to children and women of third party countries as T&T. The SDF and the Grand Coalition on this third anniversary is making it clear that they will not allow this situation to emerge and develop, which places on the agenda, whenever the Islamic State insurgency signals its capacity to trigger this threat, the deportation of T&T nationals in the camps and prisons to T&T is the likely outcome to defuse this threat.
The SDF in its third anniversary statement has then thrown down the gauntlet for the T&T government and people insisting that leaving our people in the camps until they die is not viable, unacceptable.
